Vital information for Africans
Following the Central registry of foreigners, the Ausländerzentralregister (AZR) of 2019, over 152.000 Africans live in the German state of North Rhein Westphalia. The AZR contains information about all foreigners who reside in Germany and is shared by all immigration authorities. Compared to the total number of foreigners (2,648,645), this means Africans make up 7.2 % of foreigners in the state. This figure might be misleading when refering to people of African origin as more and more Africans are taking up the German nationality.
While some of these Africans came to the country as students, most came through other means and for diffrent purposes. Knowing what to do or where to get important information or support, irrespective of your status in the state might be challenging. With this project, we are attempting to gather all relevant information from the many avalaible sources and bringing them to one spot so that the African or person of African origin can get some orientation in order to easily navigate their way within the society.
